ENTER THE WILD

Guests staying at Tokomaru have exclusive access to 3,000 acres of privately owned property. The woodlands, valleys, hills and waterways which make up the estate can be explored using over 80 kilometres of private roads, meandering trails and carefully crafted tracks. Whatever your interests may be this diverse landscape will provide a breathtaking backdrop to your next adventure.

WOODS

An extensive network of tracks and trails make its way across the estate and through a magnificent stand of Redwoods. Set off on foot, mountain bike or saddle up for a scenic journey amongst these towering trees. With numerous other species to see this tranquil environment is the perfect setting to enjoy our beautiful flora and fauna.

WATERWAYS

The Whanganui River, New Zealand’s largest waterway, meanders along the Eastern border of our estate. Pick from a number of easily accessible sites along its banks for an overnight stay, picnic lunch or launch a kayak for a fun-filled river adventure. The river is suitable for kayakers with little or no paddling experience while those seeking more of a challenge can explore the small rapids and deep pools the river is known for. Fly fishing or spin fishing is a must during your stay, with a healthy population of brown and rainbow trout nearby. Fishing equipment and instruction can be supplied on site as needed.

WILDLIFE

At Tokomaru, we proudly leverage over 40 years of breeder's experience through our partnership with Love Red Deer. The neat and symmetrical nature of our Stags, with SCI scores from 320 to 480+, are sought by discerning hunters from around the world. As well as trophy animals there are a number of species which can be hunted by bow or firearm for their meat including: Fallow Deer, Wapiti Elk, Wild Boar and Billy Goats. For non hunters we have a selection of docile livestock which can be experienced up close. Our Highland Cows, Deer and gentle Wapiti Elk are very patient and love to interact with children.
